Lucky

Hello friends,
Today is monday, and another free day. As promised here are some photos of my adventure up to now:

The first picture was taken this morning when I had an audience with Venerable Ling Rinpoche. He's 22, and the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama's senior tutor. He will be the teacher of the next Dalai Lama. He knows perfect english and was asking about where I'm from and what I'm doing here. He asked if I was religious and I said we're learning about Buddhism. He responded that he knows a little about that! I went with my Amala and her friend, she said it was very lucky to meet him.

This is a view of Delhi, big, dirty Delhi. But the sunset was beautiful!

The second picture is of two monks debating at Namgyal monastery.

Next is a stereotypical picture of a sunset.

Then a stupa and lots of prayer flags.

Next are three Tibetans turning prayer wheels. Those prayer wheels contain the mantra Om Mani Pema Hum written 180 million times. No joke.

This is a sign updated almost every day in Dharamsala, it is right across the street from my home.

This last picture is the view from the roof of my house. Theres a rainbow. Its beautiful.

Love, Sam

I'm just going to copy your mom on this one and say "Wow, you're lucky to have had a private audience with Ling Rinpoche!" How long was it? What else did you talk about?

I really love the picture of the two monks debating; they look like they're having a lot of fun. I also can't get over the view from your window - it looks a lot like Nepal, not surprisingly...

How many hours of Tibetan are you doing every day? You must be picking it up so quickly, particularly with a homestay!

Hey Sam!
I saw your mom at Yom Kippur services and she told me about your blog. So I just wanted to say "hola." It sounds like you are having a great time, except for the cold...

The picture of the banner that hangs outside your window reminded me that I wanted to tell you a story. Last spring I was at a rally outside the Chinese embassy. We were protesting China's complicity in the genocide in Darfur and that same day hundreds of Tibetans were protesting too. I know both movements have campaigns against China hosting the Olympics, but I have not heard anything about them working together. I think we need to join forces here.
